MENHIGUA is a Junta de Andalucia’s General Research Project, which was formed to study a group of large stone buildings near the Guadiana’ estuary, a vulnerable heritage. Between the municipalities of Villablanca and Ayamonte, the La Torre-La Janera site contains alignments, cromlechs, dolmens, quarry areas and other evidences, some of which are in a surprisingly good state of conservation.
Its proximity to the Algarvian megalithic references and the increase in knowledge of Huelva megaliths, position this site as a unique case study to establish, with updated archaeological information, the diachrony, architecture, associations, and connectivities of megalithism in the southwest end of Europe.
